The Propagation of the Buddha Dharma and the Dharma Education

Compassionate Guru Lung Du has been teaching Dharma for many years, emphasizing an extremely important key to achieve success in practice: One teacher, one teaching, one Yidam, and deep, thorough, dedicated practice. By nurturing a stable faith and understanding, delving deep into the teachings within the school of Guan Yin Shan, and long-term cultivation, when the causes and conditions mature, one can understand that as long as fully comprehending one teaching, all phenomena can be realized.

Venerable Guru Lung Du has never ceased to promote the teachings of sutra and tantra of three vehicles for decades. With the strong aspiration of benefiting all sentient beings, He shoulders various enlightening and charitable undertakings, and the root-taking education of Buddhism. He initiated various charity merits to bring the listening, thinking, and practicing aspects of Buddhism into daily life, allowing all the students to listen to sutras, learn the Dharma, and practice the Four Embracing Virtues: generosity, affectionate speech, beneficial deeds, fellowship and the Six Perfections: generosity, morality, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom, for the benefit of all sentient beings through compassion and virtuous actions.

Under the guidance of the Guru, the Seven Classes of disciples practice in accordance with the Dharma, widely spread the Supreme Tantra, pay equal attention to understanding and practice, and take on the full duty of sustaining lotus Tathagata and relieving the suffering of all living beings.

The Guru also personally participated in understanding and even physically engaged in the process of the decoration of the Buddha hall. Subsequently, hundreds of disciples took turns working tirelessly for six months to polish the pieces.

The Venerable Guru Lung Du is dedicated to realizing the idea of making Tibetan Buddhism take root in Taiwan. Years ago, He requested teachings from Khenchen Appey Rinpoche, who gladly agreed and was happy to see the deepening of Tibetan Buddhism in Taiwan. Thus, Khenchen Appey Rinpoche personally entrusted Lung Du Rinpoche with the historic responsibility of founding the “Phags-pa Buddhist Academy,” making Him the first and only person authorized by Khenchen Appey Rinpoche to establish a Buddhist academy in Taiwan.

On June 27, 2010, Khenchen Appey Rinpoche personally conferred the title of Taiwan Sakya Monastery. The monastery was established by the current abbot, Holy Guru Chokyi Gyetshen.

The Guru, with meticulous attention, ensured the perfection of the monastery’s construction. During the design phase, He held no less than a hundred meetings with the design team, adjusting and finalizing the plans. He personally supervised the daily progress, taking a hands-on approach to crucial construction. Upon the arrival of the nine-meter tall statue of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, He promptly inspected the conditions at the factory, ensuring alignment with the planned specifications. Simultaneously, discussions on the progress of subsequent construction projects began.

Stupas, symbolizing the Buddha’s merits of mind. Circumambulating Stupas with contemplation is one of the crucial practices for Vajrayana practitioners. Therefore, the Guru meticulously planned eight stupas in the monastery complex, consulting numerous scriptures and references before finalizing the designs. With compassion for sentient beings, He aimed to provide a conducive environment for circumambulation, allowing practitioners to accumulate merit. Furthermore, the decoration of the Buddha hall as the offerings to the Three Treasures requires nearly five thousand intricately carved pieces, and the cumbersome process with tens of thousands of steps demands focus and careful handling. The Guru also personally participated in understanding and even physically engaged in the process. Subsequently, hundreds of disciples in Guan Yin Shan took turns working tirelessly for six months to polish the pieces. All these exceptional merits of making stupas and the monastery solemn are practiced in oneself and earn praises from humans and gods alike. Although Taiwan Sakya Monastery has obtained the usage permit now, relevant construction projects in the surrounding areas are still ongoing.

The Venerable Guru Lung Du taught, “The practice of Buddhism must be carried out with great diligence in order to attain good results. If one studies Buddhism only with an academic mind, one will not be able to attain the benefits of true liberation.” These words are deeply imprinted in the hearts of disciples, outlining the Guru’s blueprint for sustaining the Dharma. The Guru told the disciples what practice is with practical action.

Despite the period of monastery construction, Guru Lung Du did not slow down the inheritance of Buddhism. He completed the planning of the rigorous Sangha system, established study courses for the teachings of sutra and tantra of three vehicles, dedicated Himself to the practice and retreats of Vajrayana rituals, and engaged in the education of propagating Buddhism. He nurtured a community of monks and lay practitioners who are committed to propagating the Dharma for the benefit of sentient beings and carry on the Buddha’s work to sustain the wisdom of the Buddha, established the practice style of a school in Buddhism, and made it His mission to inherit the Three Vehicles of Dharma forever.
