Known for his authentic achievement, Venerable Guru Lung Du Yung Jing Rinpoche received many major yidam empowerments from lineage Gurus of all four major Tibetan Buddhist sects before his formal recognition. Over the past thirty years, he has received more than a thousand special empowerments from Gurus of these sects. His remarkable journey on dharma pursuit led to his recognition by the Gelug’s Jiamuyang Tubudan (The Living Buddha), and the Sakya’s Chogye Trichen Rinpoche, entrusting him with the mission of spreading the precious teachings of Vajrayana Buddhism.
Venerable Guru Lung Du is historically the first Han Chinese Rinpoche to be certified both by Jiamuyang Thubten Tulku, the foremost Living Buddha of Yonghe Temple in Beijing, and by Chogye Trichen Rinpoche—the holder of Sakya’s throne. This unique distinction marks him as the only Han Chinese Rinpoche to receive dual recognition from both the Gelug and Sakya patriarchs.
On October 5, 2003, Jiamuyang Tubudan Tulku conferred upon Venerable Guru Lung Du the Vajra Acharya Great empowerment and the Yidam Great Empowerment, at Yonghe Temple, officially recognizing him as Lung Du Yung Jing Rinpoche. This event marked him as the first Han Chinese Living Buddha certified in Beijing’s Yonghe Temple.
The Dharma Name Lung Du Yung Jing, in Tibetan, signifies The Melodious Sound of Teachings and Realization.
Jiamuyang Tubudan Tulku, holding a Geshe degree, or PhD in Buddhist studies, was advanced in age. He expressed that he would no longer teach or transmit the Dharma to disciples before the recognition, making Venerable Guru Lung Du his last disciple of the master.
Signs of auspiciousness were evident when Guru Lung Du went to Beijing’s Yonghe Temple for his recognition as a Tulku (The living Buddha). A Taiwanese doctor of Chinese medicine, who had never met the Guru before, shared a dream he had the previous night. He dreamed of countless Buddhas descending from the sky, entering Guru Lung Du’s body, proclaiming him a truly extraordinary person. This dream, along with the Buddhas’ and Bodhisattvas’ compassionate blessings, added to the auspicious and legendary circumstances of his recognition as a living Buddha.
On June 14, 2005, Chogye Trichen Rinpoche, the 25th throne holder of Sakya, impressed by Venerable Guru Lung Du’s (Chokyi Gyetshen) years of practice and propagation of Sutrayana and Tantrayana Buddhism in Taiwan, recognized him as a Vajra Guru. This certification was granted following deep meditation and auspicious signs, honoring his profound past-life connections and beneficial activities for sentient beings. He was bestowed the Dharma Name Chokyi Gyetshen, in Tibetan, meaning the Dharma Dhvaja.
