“Speeches benefit people in one life while books benefit people in all generations.” Sutras are treasures carrying the profound teachings of Buddhism, representing the relics of the Buddha’s Dharmakaya. The Dharma is precious when circulated, and books are precious when read. The invaluable teachings should circulate to future generations worldwide.
For over a decade, Venerable Guru Lung Du has founded the Buddhist Publication of Dharma Books, striving to ensure that the distributed Buddhist texts are accurate and beautifully printed, inspiring those who are fortunate to receive these treasures to hold them with great reverence and prudence.
In 2009, the “Hundred Years for Human Cultivation and Sage Education” root-taking initiative was launched. The Guru emphasized, “Learn Buddhism! Start by learning to be a good person.” This led to the promotion of sage education, instilling correct life views and attitudes from a young age, sowing the seeds of happiness for a peaceful and pleasant life.
To date, this initiative has distributed tens of thousands of books, with hundreds of dedicated volunteers promoting virtuous concepts through various activities on campuses.
The Compassionate Guru Lung Du’s Printing and Donating Society provides free distribution of Buddhist scriptures and virtuous books globally. Charitable efforts extend to prisons, jails, libraries, hospitals, clinics, schools, and charitable organizations. Notably, the distribution of books such as Liaofan’s Four Lessons: The Ways to Change One’s Destiny and Buddha Says Parents’ Kindness is Difficult to Repay to dozens of schools in northern Thailand has led these texts to be adopted as textbooks, laying the foundation of Buddhism and morality for countless students.
Keeping up with the times, the official Shopee platform “Guan Yin Shan Guru Lung Du’s Free Distribution of Buddhist Scriptures and Treasures” was established, aiming to make Buddhist scriptures widely spread and available for public reading. The response has been overwhelmingly positive since its launch.
With insightful wisdom, Compassionate Guru Lung Du guides a community of monastics and lay disciples into fully embodying and practicing the compassionate aspirations and actions of a Bodhisattva. The propagation of authentic Buddhism enables the public to have a correct understanding of Buddhism. The goal is for people to believe, understand, practice, attain liberation from afflictions, and achieve mental and physical well-being. Millions of copies of Buddhist scriptures and virtuous books have been distributed for free, benefiting over a million people both locally and abroad.
With over hundreds of conservation and release activities, spanning Taiwan, outlying islands, Penghu, mainland China, Hong Kong, Thailand, the United States, and global seas, Guru Lung Du has contributed to the rehabilitation of various species, including abalones, red seabream, sea urchins, cobia, clams, and horseshoe crabs. Collaborating with the Marine Biology Research Center of the Fisheries Research Institute, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan (now renamed as Penghu Fisheries Biology Research Center, Executive Yuan,) a Letter of Intent was signed, aiming to protect the oceans with professional guidance. Additionally, a partnership with the Taiwan Ocean Conservation and Fishery Sustainability Foundation was formed to promote marine conservation lectures.
Guan Yin Shan Vegetarian Restaurants have been established in various locations, promoting free and healthy vegetarian meals. Building connections with people, organizations, and supporting disadvantaged groups, the initiative embodies the practice of kindness through vegetarianism.
